Entrepreneur Immigration

Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaThe entrepreneur program seeks to attract foreign nationals who will own and actively manage businesses that will contribute to the economy and create jobs in Canada. You can immigrate to Canada as an entrepreneur if you have $300,000(CAD), business experiences, and intend to own and operate a business in Canada.

You need the following in order to apply as an entrepreneur:

  • Net worth of at least $300,000 (CAD)*
  • Business Experience (see below)

* “Net worth” means the fair market value of all of the assets (cash, bonds, stocks, personal property, and business) of you and your spouse/common-law partner minus the fair market value of all of your liabilities.

Business Experience:
An entrepreneur applicant must have managed and controlled a "qualifying business" in your home country for at least two years in the five year period before the date of application. "Qualifying business" is not a business of deriving investment income (interest, dividend, or capital gains) and the business must meet at least two of the following attributes.

Number of full-time jobs: at least 2 full-time job equivalents
Total annual sales: $500,000 (CAD)
Annual net income**: $50,000 (CAD)
Net assets***: $125,000 (CAD)

**“Net income” means the after tax profit or loss of the business plus remuneration by the business to you or your spouse/common-law partner.

***“Net assets” means the assets of the business, minus the liabilities of the business, plus shareholder loans made to the business by you and your spouse/common-law partner.

After coming to Canada:
The entrepreneur must meet the conditions by managing a "qualifying Canadian business" in Canada for a period of at least one year within the period of three years after the day on which the entrepreneur becomes a permanent resident. The entrepreneur's business in Canada must meet at least two of the following attributes to be considered as a "qualifying Canadian business".

Number of full-time jobs: at least 1 incremental full-time job equivalents
Total annual sales: $250,000 (CAD)
Annual net income: $25,000 (CAD)
Net assets: $125,000 (CAD)

In addition, the entrepreneur must:

  • provide active and ongoing management of the "qualifying Canadian business"
  • control a percentage of the equity of a "qualifying Canadian business" equal or greater than 33 1/3%
  • create at least one full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, other than the entrepreneur and their family members
